One of the heaviest takeaways from the Black Hills was rocks. Sam and I love collecting rocks, and we found so many cool rock shops around town with super cheap prices on bulk rocks. Sam kept pointing out that they were only $2 per pound, and I kept putting them in my basket. When they all got boxed up and I had to carry them to the car, I realized my new rock-tumbling hobby will keep me plenty busy.
Before venturing off to Badlands National Park, Sam asked me whether it would be more like Zion or Bryce. Maybe the more appropriate question would be whether it's more like Mars or the Moon. It's really its own thing, and it was incredible standing on little outcroppings of rock with massive drops around me. I felt like a mountain goat. The whole experience was otherworldly, with the colors, textures, and scale of everything.
We stayed an extra day in the Black Hills to allow for repairs to the camper, and I'm happy to report that while we're down one AC unit, we are up one skylight! It's not a permanent fix, but it's enough to keep us road-safe and moving.
Yesterday, after a two-day drive, we arrived at West Glacier KOA, and OMG, what a park. I feel like we're at a Disney resort, with an ice cream parlor, beer garden, restaurant, hot tubs and saunas, and a gorgeous site next to a mountain where we can watch bears run up and down. I'm so excited to get into the park today and extra excited for what we might see in the night skies!
